PHYSICAL ACTIVITY DURING PREGNANCY HAS BENEFITS AND IS GENERALLY NOT RISKY FOR YOU AND YOUR BABY. BEING PHYSICALLY ACTIVE IS NOW SEEN AS A CRITICAL PART OF A HEALTHY PREGNANCY.
Pre-screening for Physical Activity in Pregnancy using an evidence-informed screening tool is an important first step in ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience. Screening identifies those who may need more evaluation or to see their Obstetric Health Care Provider before they begin or continue to be physically active.
The 2019 Canadian Guideline for Physical Activity Throughout Pregnancy—Evidence-based guideline that outlines the right amount of physical activity women should get throughout pregnancy to promote maternal, fetal, and neonatal health.
The Get Active Questionnaire for Pregnancy, developed by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), is intended to easily identify pregnant individuals who may have a condition where physical activity is not recommended.
The Get Active Questionnaire for Pregnancy enables a pregnant individual to make an informed decision whether they should seek further advice from their obstetric health care provider or a qualified exercise professional before becoming or continuing to be physically active. It is designed to be a self-administered pre-screening tool to empower individuals to be responsible for their own health and wellbeing during their pregnancy. The companion Health Care Provider Consultation for Prenatal Physical Activity is used by the Health Care Provider to assist with determining whether their pregnant patient should engage in unrestricted Physical Activity, participate with limitations or refrain from participating in Physical Activity.

- user friendly – is intended to be self-administered, e.g., at home or at the fitness facility.
- Safely encourages and “screens-in” the majority of pregnant individuals for regular physical activity.
- Grounded in the latest evidence.
- Has a companion two-page Health Care Provider Consultation Form for Prenatal Physical Activity to assist the conversation between the pregnant individual, qualified exercise professional, and obstetric health care provider.
The Get Active Questionnaire for Pregnancy is the current CSEP-endorsed evidence-informed pre-screening tool for pregnant individuals and replaces the PARmed-X for Pregnancy.
